CYO performs charity concerts in Kenmare and Killarney.

This years annual trip to Kerry was a real successful tour for a number of reasons. First off the weather was particularly kind, with the players actually getting to see some of the 50 acres of forest which is part of the Hostel, our base for this trip.

The venue, and reception that we received at the Kenmare Secondary School was great, and we hope to make this a firm part of future trips to Kerry. Our concert in the Malton, Killarneywas as usual special, the venue really suits the orchestra, and the grub was good too.

Our soloist Rob Craig, and guest soloist Cllr Kieran McCarthy both did a great job, and were very well received at both concerts. The players had a great time, and good work done to prepare for our concerts with Colm Wilkinson.

The trip raised much needed funds for Home from Home, respite care for special needs children, and The Killarney Friends of the Children of Chernobyl, so the trip was worthwhile for this alone. The Orchestra returned to Cork with alot of catch up to do on the sleep front, but will remember this trip for some time, well until Italy at least. But just in case you've forgotten already there's plenty of photos on our facebook page so check it out.

Cork Youth Chamber Orchestra concert Masonic Hall, on Culture Night

With seating for 80, over 110 people found a perch in the Masonic Hall, Tuckey St Cork for a very special Concert. The Cork Youth Chamber Orchestra are developing a reputation for fine performances, with varied and special musical programmes selected by Conductor Adrian Petcu. The Orchestra with leader Hugh Murray gave a memorable performance to a captivated audience. The Masonic Hall with its medieval feel, proved a special venue for this concert, the orchestra followed in the footsteps of the RTE Vanburgh Quartet, and filled those shoes comfortably.

Colm had earlier been interviewed live on 96fm, and he was accompanied by our Conductor Tomás McCarthy, orchestra leaders Molly O'Shea and Lisa Wong and some other orchestra members to get things rolling. We were also delighted to have Brittany Ferries as sponsors for these concerts, and our Media Sponsors The Evening Echo.
